Sydney Airport.
The Wireless Internet however in Sydney Airport is not free. Of course there are a few Free Internet Kiosks over the place, but they are always occupied. It is not like Beijing Airport, the Wireless Internet needs log in account. However, any passengers can go and get a free log in account to use it from the Business Center. But this information is not announced publicly. They only inform you in the info desk if you ask about free Wireless Internet. :(
Jinjiang Metropole Hotel (新城饭店)is where I was staying for the first 3 nights. It is a famous historical building.
Internet is free for my home at least, called King Suite or something. It is close to bond, Nanjing East Rd, but it is not as convenient as the Park Hotel I stayed in the final two days in Shanghai.
Cleaning and renovating everywhere in Shanghai for the upcoming World Expo in Oct 10
You can see the next door Communication Bank Building. It is a even more famous historical building. The hotel is at the cross of Fuzhou Rd and Xiangxi Zhong Rd. Fuzhou Rd use to be No. 1 street of Shanghai around 1920's. Meaning the No. 1 in Asian, of course.
Overcast day, but not raining... yet.
Shanghaiese's breakfast.
Not very far away you see the east opening of Nanjing pedestrian only shopping mall.
Gold, prosperity, and new Shanghai.
I left People Square and Nanjing Rd area, and arrived Xintiandi (New Heaven Earth).
It is an area full of renovated typical Shanghai resident townhouse.
Surrounding XinTianDi, are many luxury apartment building...
Buick is a very big brand in China. And this model I believe is only available in China. In North America, there are only 3 model at the moment. And in Australia, there is no modern Buick. I have the opportunity and the pleasure driving the famous Buick SUV - ENCLAVE when I am in Vancouver. I love it. I love the new 2010 LaCrosse too. They call it 君越 in China.
Right inside XinTianDi, there is a building. It is a building in which the official 1st conference meeting of Communist Party of China was held 1921.
Shanghai Tang, an oriental styling brand.
I was kicked out politely after this shot.
A German restaurant, with beer from Germany.
This got to be one of the most stylish Starbucks in the world. Yeah. So why not...
Inside you see all kinds of Chinese flower and fruit teas... Not surprising...
I got the most cozy and stylish spot on the 2nd floor by the balcony.
This is the station you can go back from XinTianDi. The Shanghai has this transport chargeable card, very much like the Suica in Tokyo. Only that, it can be used on Subway, Taxi, Ferry, Light rail, and Magneto Express to the International Airport.
People's Square station, obviously is the largest in the city.
The Park Hotel is right here. I was going to move there on day 4.
You can tell it is a big station and important intersect.
And important Church. There was a time when there is only that Church, and nothing much else.
Big shopping complex everywhere.
The west opening of the Nanjing rd shopper's paradise. (Pedestrian only)
This use to be the one and only department store in Shanghai. Therefore it is called No.1
Gold GuanYin Buda
No. 1 food store.
Shanghai is such a sophisticated city.
Back to the hotel (the one on the left)
Had a rest, and back to somewhere near the Park Hotel.
Same spot look right
Look left. The Art Museum of Shanghai is by the road side on the left.
It use to be the house racing association. The Shanghai Park next to it now use to be the where is the racing is hosted.
It's a beautiful building
You can take photos inside
The opening ceremony of An Niu's Exhibition.
I took some interior photos of this building last time I was here. Back then I was using Canon 400D. Now I am with Nikon D90
Farewell, concubine.
Drunken Yang GuiFei (Highest ranked imperial concubine)
Capture and release of Prime minister Cao
Qingwen mending the peacock cloak. These are all Liang Guan 关良 's work
The level 2 is having the opening of An Niu's exhibition that day...
Next to the Art Museum is the Shanghai Park. Inside the park, there is a small Modern Art Museum. While I am working toward the Modern Art Museum, this was what I saw outside the park wall. The security police is practicing.
They have noticed me. I've got to stop right there. Otherwise, maybe they are going to do something about it.
Inside the Shanghai Contemporary Museum of Art
A bit like NYC Guggenheim Museum
The other side of the park, oh the name, according to the Chinese characters, People's Park
Going from under-pass. You can go to the center of the People's Square, where the Shanghai Museum is.
I had my hair cut in this salon in the under pass. It wasn't properly done, I had to go back there the next door to have it rectified.
I was too late. It closes at 5pm.
People's Square
Getting out of the square from an west side underpass.
Grant Opera House on the west side on the other side of the underpass
Back to near Park hotel again. Chong Hing Finance Center, the ground floor is Porsche, the 3rd floor is "苏浙汇“, a fancy restaurant where I was going to have dinner with my friend that night at 7:30pm
Next to Park Hotel is another historical site - Grand Cinema. 1920-30's Shanghai was one of most posh city in the world. All the newest American Movies were released here less than a week after it debut in the US mainland.
It also hosted legendary Chinese artist here as well.
And next to the Grand Theater is the Park Hotel 国际饭店 . This perhaps the most famous building in Shanghai. Because a: It has been the tallest building in Shanghai (and of course in Asia) for almost half century; b. It is the geological origin of the city. There will be photo of the memorial for that origin in later post.
Wintersweet in front of the hotel
Front gate (I will move to this hotel on day 4)
Other fancy hotels (not as famous though)
